Cape Verdean community in New Bedford hosts a fundraiser for flagship schools in Brava

The Cape Verdean community in New Bedford is organizing an afternoon dedicated to music, fellowship, and solidarity with the island of Brava, with a fundraising initiative to benefit two of the island’s flagship schools: the Escola de Nossa Senhora do Monte and the Escola Sena Barcelos in Nova Sintra.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026, starting at 3:00 p.m., at the Bisca Club, located at 157 Ashunet Avenue in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

In addition to the musical component, the event aims to serve as a gathering for the Brava and Cape Verdean communities, bringing together former teachers and students, parents, community leaders and guardians, activists, and others connected to the social and educational life of Brava Island, known as the Island of Flowers.

The musical entertainment will be provided by Santiago’s Band, featuring John on bass, Samuel on keyboards, and Edu on acoustic guitar. The program will also feature a special appearance by John Mirança on violin, as well as singers and other guest musicians.

The event is organized by Santiago’s Band, the Bisca Club, and the PAI NB Center, with the goal of raising funds to support the two educational institutions.

Food and appetizers will be served during the event, providing an opportunity for community members and friends of Brava to socialize.

Donations will go toward supporting the schools. The organizers are calling on the community to participate and lend their support to strengthen this initiative of solidarity with education on the island.
